Ford Restraints and PetroWrap: Field Demonstration at Andrew Sheret Limited
Our team recently visited Andrew Sheret Limited in Surrey for a hands-on installation demonstration with Fleet Excavating. The session focused on two core components used across waterworks projects: Ford pipe restraints and the PetroWrap protection system. Seeing these products applied in real conditions provides valuable insight into how contractors use them in the field and reinforces the best practices behind their performance.
Ford Pipe Restraints: Mechanical Joint Security
Ford restraints are designed to secure PVC pipe connections and prevent joint separation caused by internal pressure or external forces. When properly installed, the restraint ring grips the pipe and distributes load forces evenly across the assembly.
During the demonstration, the installation process covered:
- Positioning the restraint ring on the pipe
- Aligning the assembly with the fitting
- Tightening the set screws in the correct sequence
- Verifying engagement without over-torquing
This step-by-step approach reinforces the importance of even clamping pressure and proper placement, both of which ensure the restraint performs as intended under operating conditions.
PetroWrap Protection System
The second part of the demonstration focused on using the PetroWrap system to help protect buried infrastructure from corrosion. The system includes three components: primer, mastic, and wrap. Together, they create a protective barrier around joints and fittings.
The process shown onsite included:
- Applying the PetroWrap primer to prepare the surface
- Building up the profile with mastic to cover bolts, irregular shapes, and sharp edges
- Wrapping the joint with PetroWrap tape to seal the assembly
This method helps reduce exposure to moisture and soil conditions that contribute to corrosion. The demonstration highlighted how consistent tension, overlap, and surface preparation influence long-term performance.
Hands-On Learning in Real Conditions
While product sheets and videos provide a strong foundation, field demonstrations offer a closer look at how tools, soil conditions, and joint alignment influence installation. Bella Marshall, Senior Manager of Business Development (Western Canada), Bryan Lastwika, Western Canada Sales Manager, and Reis Sekhon, Inside Sales, participated to strengthen technical understanding and ensure our team can support contractors and distributors with accurate information.
Collaborative Knowledge Sharing
Thank you to Andrew Sheret Limited and Fleet Excavating for the opportunity to observe and participate in this demonstration. These sessions help confirm best practices and reinforce the shared commitment to quality installations across the waterworks sector.
